Professor Honoris Causa and Doctor Honoris Causa at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University |
Higher education in North Macedonia has a key role to play in promoting peace, regional cooperation and European integration across south-east Europe. A variety of mechanisms are now in place to encourage this process, capacity building, confidence and cooperation across the region.
University is proud to recognize its long tradition of established procedure for awarding the prestigious titles of Professor Honoris Causa and Doctor Honoris Causa to renowned academics and individuals who gave valuable contribution towards the development of the education and research thus promoting the Macedonian science, tradition and culture on international level.
During the 1970s the University become internationally well known for its achievements and in 1974 was awarded the first Doctor Honoris Causa title in economics and political sciences to Edmond Lebirton from Belgium. Since then, as a result of the intensive and successful cooperation with the universities, institutions and individuals worldwide, as a token of gratitude, 52 honorary titles were conferred to acclaimed scholars and renowned public figures such as: Rober Badenter, Paris Sorbonne; maestro Zubin Mehta; the poet Husto Horhe Padron, Spain; Romano Prodi, President of the EU Commission; Camil Idris, President of the Intellectual Property Organization... The list is long. In future the University will put efforts in continuing this program and building its large family of friends and supporters of the Macedonian education and science.
